Hi, I'm Aksel
I'm a 31-year-old based in Denmark with a background that doesn't quite fit in a single box. For years, music was my world — I trained as a jazz drummer and spent a good chunk of my twenties playing gigs, recording sessions, and obsessing over polyrhythms and swing feel. These days the drumsticks still come out, but my focus has shifted toward something new.
I'm now preparing to embark on a research career in cancer biology and immunology. The idea of understanding how the immune system can be harnessed to fight cancer — and contributing, even in a small way, to therapies that could actually make a difference — is genuinely exciting to me. Science turns out to scratch many of the same itches as music: pattern recognition, obsessive detail, and the occasional moment where everything clicks.
Outside the lab and the practice pad, I have what most people would call an excess of nerdy hobbies. I'm an avid speedcuber — solving Rubik's Cubes and learning the many hundreds of algorithms that competitive solving demands. I enjoy programming and have been building tools to support my own training (like the Cube Trainer you'll find on this site). I also read broadly, think too much, and drink too much coffee.
This site is a small corner of the internet where I collect the projects I'm working on. Have a look around.
